What Will This Session Cover?

This practical Therapy & Medical session will help coaches build their confidence in understanding participants’ individual needs and making informed decisions about how best to support them within RDA activities.

The session will explore the participant application and assessment process, common medical conditions and their implications for riding, contraindications and precautions, and when a participant’s needs or abilities may require further review.

Coaches will also consider practical ways to support participants, including positioning, communication, compensatory aids and adaptations, as well as when to seek advice or involve an appropriate healthcare professional.

About this event

Therapy & Medical training is designed to strengthen the link between good coaching, participant-centred practice and appropriate therapeutic knowledge.

Through a combination of discussion, theory and practical learning, the session encourages coaches to look beyond a participant’s diagnosis and consider the individual: what they can do, how they communicate, what they would like to achieve and what support may help them participate safely and confidently.

The training also explores the therapeutic benefits of RDA activities, including balance and core stability, movement, muscle tone, confidence and wellbeing, while helping coaches understand when additional professional advice may be needed.

The overall aim is to give coaches practical knowledge they can take back to their RDA sessions and use to create safe, inclusive and positive experiences for participants.
